I never imagined my life would lead me here. If you had told me in 2006 I’d be a self-published children’s picture book author with a pet blog focusing on dog health and wellness I would not have believed you. Harley had me at his first (lick, paw, snuggle, look) and my world changed for the better. When he was diagnosed with diabetes I was devastated. As a Nurse Practitioner, I frequently see the disease in humans but had no idea it could affect dogs and what it meant for us. My wonderful vet kept reassuring me, “Animals can do very well with Diabetes and you caught it early because you are aware of the signs. This means he will still live a long happy life.” That reassurance became the inspiration for everything else. I wrote Harley’s Story for kids and adults. I don’t want a pet or child to go undiagnosed “How to Tell if your Child or Dog has Diabetes“. I also want children with special needs to know they are not alone.
